Here’s a closer look at our newest listing. Our antique black writing desk is such a cool piece and would shine as an entry table, office desk, accent table or even a sofa table.
This piece was painted in ‘Lamp Black’ by General Finishes. I’ve been dying to try their paint and this is my first project using their milk paint line. I have heard so many great things about this paint and thought it would be good to try something new – so glad I tried it and can’t wait to use it again on another piece! I decided to use my favorite Annie Sloan clear wax to seal and protect the paint finish. General Finishes does have a clear top coat that they offer, but for this project I decided to stick with the furniture wax.
For the top, this table had seen some better days for sure. It’s such an old piece, however as I started sanding it I loved the old rustic look of the wood. Each old mark or line just seemed to tell a story to me and I decided I wanted to highlight this and also create a bit of a contrast against the dark black paint by leaving the wood in its natural patina and sealing it for protection with a satin polyurethane.
After finishing and sealing the top this piece needed some fresh new hardware. I chose silver drawer pulls from Anthropologie. I love these simple, elegant pulls and think they look perfect against the dark painted finish.
