Before and After: White Midcentury Dresser

Excited to share one of our newest listings with you.  This dresser, originally made by the Hooker furniture company, had a great retro look.  These pieces usually stand out in the vintage stores and really would look amazing without any refinishing at all.  Here’s the before photo of this piece.

See?  This piece was cool.  The uniquely shaped legs, the simple and efficient use of hardware, the solid wood – it really would be perfect in any space just as it is here.  I didn’t have an exact plan when I started with this piece.  As I do with many others I began by just cleaning and sanding it down, just to freshen it up and also to see what quality of wood I am working with – this piece was solid.  The drawers sanded down so beautifully that I knew right then, they needed to stay natural.

The frame and legs looked so refreshingly bright and shiny with a fresh coat of white chalk paint from Annie Sloan’s collection.  It was really all it needed to keep the retro look, but with a more updated, modern feel to it.

So great, right?  I love the color combination and loved the white accents under the knobs. The knobs, which are also original to the piece, now shine brightly after being cleaned and polished.

Where would you put this piece in your home?  A bedroom? Office?  Entryway?  There really are so many options – it’s the perfect size for any living space.
